Welcome

Welcome to my blog; a collection of original recipes that I have made using the fruit and veg from my allotment.

I'm Stuart and I currently have a 60ft x 20ft allotment plot on which my partner (Julia) and I currently grow Marrows, Courgettes, Runners Beans, Potatoes, Sweetcorn, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Blackberries and Strawberries. We're completely new to the allotment game and are embracing the whole experience!

Enjoy!

Recipe: CREAM OF MARROW SOUP

Our Marrows have been growing ridiculously large, so I've been trying to come up with different ways to use them in our cooking. Our most recent and largest Marrow was around around 1.5ft,  so I decide to make a soup out of it. This recipe made roughly 6 litres of soup, but you can adjust the ingredient quantities to the size of marrow you have or the quantity of soup you wish to make.

Ingredients:

2 large onions
4 rashers of bacon (smoked or unsmoked)
1/2 large leek
1.5 litres of vegetable
1 litre of chicken stock
1 XL marrow (the one I used was around 1.5ft / 3KG)
6 medium sized potatoes
2 tablespoons of dried mixed herbs
1 tablespoon of garlic granuals
Seasoning (salt, pepper, knorr aromat)
170ml Single Cream
100g salted butter

Recipe

1. Chop onions, bacon, leek marrow and potatoes.
2. Heat the butter in a large pan (approx 6 litres volume) and add the onions.
3. When the onions have softened add the bacon, leek, herbs, garlic and season. Cook for 5mins (or until the bacon is cooked) continually stirring.
4. Add the stock and bring to the boil. Add the Potatoes and simmer for 5-10 mins.
5. Add the marrow, season and cook for 15-20mins.
6. Take off the heat and allow to cool for 5-10mins.
7. Blend until smooth, taste, season, stir and serve.
